Reflection: There are moments when I wish I could return to the version of myself who first learned that life would unfold differently than I expected. To stop her. To hold her. To say, “This hurts, and there will be more hard moments, but you will survive this”. I can’t go back in time. But I can return in another way. By remembering her. By offering, from where I stand now, the reassurance and tenderness I didn’t yet have. This is how I reclaim my story, by giving grace to earlier versions of myself who are still aching to be seen. And often, the most powerful validation comes not from others, but from who I am today.
Self-care tip:
Run water over your hands or into a bowl and just pause. You can watch how it moves, how the water gathers and how it slips away. Pay attention to the temperature and to the sound of your hands in the water. Listen to the rhythm of your movements. Stay for a few breaths and just long enough for your body to slow on its own.
Why does this work?: Water reminds us that moments in time will pass. Water shows us that we can move through them and that we can survive them.
