Reflection: Knowledge truly is power. Until I learned about disenfranchised grief, I didn’t know there was even a name for what I was feeling around not having kids. All I knew was the heaviness in my chest whenever someone announced a pregnancy, or the pit in my stomach when someone asked me, “Do you have children?” I used to think something was wrong with me for feeling such sadness over something I never technically lost. Learning there was a term for it felt like someone had finally turned on a light in a dark room I’d been stumbling around in for quite some time. I was now able to move forward and consider new ways of healing. - Caroline Bloss
