Reflection: Part of the problem is that we think we have to do this journey without kids perfectly. We buy into the myth that healing is a straight line. So, the moment we take a step forward and then find ourselves taking two steps back, we panic. We spiral. Our heavy feelings get even worse because we pile regret and self-judgment right on top of our pain.
But here’s my message for you today: give yourself a break!
Seriously. No one is tracking you. There is no scoreboard, and there is no timeline you are failing to meet. This ride is never going to be perfectly smooth, so we might as well get used to the bumps. If you thought you were doing great, but then you pass a school playground, see the kids playing, and totally lose it in your car, that’s okay. If you thought your heart was finally mended, but a pregnancy announcement pops up on your Instagram feed and brings you to instant tears, let the tears come. Those moments don't mean you are broken, and they don't mean you've lost your progress. They just mean you are human, and you are navigating something deeply profound. In fact, that very contrast is what makes your progress feel so beautiful - because you know how heavy the low points can be.
Grief and healing coexist. The bumps are part of the path, not a detour. So give yourself some grace. Take a deep breath, let go of the need to have it all together, and just keep moving forward - bumps and all. - Caroline Bloss
