Reflection: There’s something to be said for thinking about the start of our mornings as a blank canvas. Upon waking, as soon as we put both feet on the ground we get to decide who we are going to be all day. Our behaviors and thoughts are choices. It’s easy to slide into old patterns of being simply because it’s what we’ve been doing for so long, but we don’t have to. So how do we change things up? Two nights ago I wrote down 10 statements about myself if I were my most ideal version. One of the statements I wrote down was, “I am funny and filled with grace”. Ok - so now what? Well now I BE her. I make jokes confidently no matter what others think. I find humor throughout the day and I laugh. I give people the benefit of the doubt even if the voice in my head tells me not to. I let people off the hook.

Our external reality is a reflection of our internal state. To change what is happening around us, we must first change what is happening within. This inner transformation requires more than just hope - it requires the active practice of embodying our highest self in the present moment. We can’t wish we were different, we have to be different now. When we say, “I want to be funny and filled with grace” it means we aren’t that yet which puts us in a state of lack. When we change that sentence to “I AM funny and I AM filled with grace” well…I AM that because I’ve declared that’s who I am. Every day we have a blank canvas from which to start. We just have to remind ourselves that we have the power to pick up the brush and paint with new colors. - Caroline Bloss
