Reflection:  When I read the definition of grit, I’m reminded of both my failures and my successes. I’m reminded of the fear I feel whenever I start something new, or the anticipation of judgment when I meet a new group of people and the inevitable question comes up: “Do you have kids?” Over the years, I’ve learned that we are all wired to want comfort, safety, and belonging. But I also know now that it’s my responsibility to navigate uncomfortable spaces, resist people-pleasing, and remember that I belong in places that have earned my presence. This mindset took years of work and acceptance, and it’s still a struggle at times when I feel “othered” because I’m not a mom…and that’s okay. We are all a work in progress, and remembering the grit it takes to get through each day is what matters most.
