This quote is a reminder that when we turn toward the light, the darkness naturally falls behind us. We get to choose where we put our focus. Life will always have shadows like grief, hardship, and disappointment, but if we spend all our energy looking at these things, they can take over. When we turn toward the “sunshine,” we shift our attention toward what actually gives us strength. That doesn’t mean pretending pain or challenges don’t exist - they’re still there. But they don’t have to be the center of our lives when we keep our focus on what lifts us up.

Let’s unpack this:

As a childless woman, I remind myself daily to live with purpose. From girlhood, women are taught their path is to raise children, so when that doesn’t happen, feelings of loss and isolation can leave us feeling like outsiders. I believe it takes intention and energy to shift focus toward what I can create and contribute to my community. By acknowledging the absence of motherhood, I don’t erase the truth - it’s a real part of me. However, it doesn’t define all of me. I am more than that. I’m excited to discover how my gifts will grow - this is just the beginning. - Adriana Rodriguez-Baptiste
